What Is My Leggings Size?
In order to find the right fit for your leggings, it’s important to take three separate measurements of your lower body—your waist, your hips, and, of course, your inseam. Remember that your leggings size is not necessarily dependent upon your pants, jeans, or even your dress size since leggings are meant to fit much more snug.
Your waist is the slimmest, narrowest point between your hips and your bust (around your breasts). Conversely, the hips are the fullest. Finally, your inseam is the measurement of the inside of your leg from your crotch all the way down to, but not past, your ankle.
How to Measure Your Leggings Size
Step One: Waist
You’ll find your natural waistline somewhere between your hip bones and your rib cage. Locate the narrowest part of your midsection and wrap your tape measure comfortably around, with no more than approximately half an inch of slack. Maintain a good posture and keep your tape measure parallel with the floor all the way around your waist.
Step Two: Hips
Using the same method you used to measure your waist, you’re not going to wrap the tape measure around the fullest area of your hips. Keep the tape measure snug, but not too tight. It’s important to stand with your feet together, as well, as any other position can compromise your accurate measurement! Again, double check that your tape measure is horizontal and parallel to the floor all the way around.
Pro Hip Tip
Keep in mind that your hip bones are often not at the widest part of your hips, it’s usually a couple inches lower where your butt sticks out the farthest.
Step Three: Inseam
The final step in finding your measurements for leggings is the inseam measure—this is the length of your leg. While standing with your feet shoulder-width apart, place your tape measure on the inside of your ankle and measure up your inner leg to the crotch. For the most accurate inseam measurement, repeat this step on your other leg and use the average of both numbers.
